Manos del Uruguay

Have somone of you ever tried it? Is it soft? I found this amazing pattern on Sheep in The City, and I'd love to make the scarf but the wool is pretty expensive and I'm not sure it's worth...

Can someone give me a hint?

I love Manos del Uruguay yarn, the colorways are amazing, a simple stitch will showcase the yarn best and the texture it creates is fantastic. Totally Yummy Yarn!!!

I have Manos and really like it. But I made the My So Called Scarf in Malabrigo and like it better. It seems softer to me. I also paid less for it.

I also came up with a hat pattern to match.

Yep, I've made that pattern with that yarn - it's on my blog. I love it, and would make it again. :) Very pretty colorway that you are looking at!

Thank you so much to all of you girls, for stepping by.

Pam, if you liked it, I surely will too!

Becky your hat is so NICE!!! Great job!!! I'll check the Malabrigo colorway that you suggest, and I guess I'll make my purchase with no further doubts.

V, I couldn't find your scarf in your blog, which by the way is full of great jobs!

One substantial advantage of Manos vs Malabrigo is that while you must buy the Malabrigo via web, thus with mailing fees, you can buy Monos del Uruguay from their shop in Milano. For a small project you can fish the sale bin too. I used it for two small projects (a crocheted scarf + hat and a knitted cowl) and liked it a lot.

Thank you so much Typesetter! I didn't know there was a Manos shop in Milano! Now I know where I'll be on next saturday afternoon... GRAZIE!!

Ciao Justine! I agree with Pam. Manos del Uruguay amazing yarn can be just knitted (I mean, no complicated stitch) and will look beautiful.
As you know, Argentina and Uruguay are neighbour countries. So you won´t believe this: We don´t get Manos del Uruguay yarn here in Argentina. And (you won´t believe this either) in Uruguay you have the Manos del Uruguay store, where you can buy beautiful sweaters, cardigans, etc but not the yarn.
There must be a "business" reason, and the company prefers to send the yarn to the US and Europe...

Vik this is totally weird!! But I have noticed that it's very difficult to find manos on ebay as well. There must be a reason, but which one? hopefully for you the "yarn neighborhood" in Buenos Aires you showed us seems pretty full of other yarns! Thanks for the advice!!!

Vik: the sad truth is that the same occurs in italy too. italy manufactures lots of gorgeous yarns that get shipped to the UK or to the US but are impossible to purchase here. A friend of mine that owns a yarn shop gave me as a gift two balls of a delicious yarn made in italy that is only distributed by Cascade and not available here. Aven those that are available, like the yarns from Genovese manufacturer Filtes, are often hearder to buy in italy than in the US!

I just got 4 skeins on (UK's) eBayfor £6 ($10?)each, around half price. EBay is a fab place to look for wools, you get some real gems, and often at starting bid price too.I got some lotsof 500g Adriafil Globe, which is similar to the M.d.U. (although not ethically traded) for £8!($14?)I am addicted to amazingly coloured, variegated yarns and am forever impulse-buying.
I will defo be knitting this scarf immediately, as i am just finishing one in Noro Silk Mountain for the winter.
My take on expensive yarns is that if you make yourself reallygorgeous accessories, e.g scarves then you can use these to make basic clothes such as a simple tee, look fab, and to make inexpensive and thrift store clothes seem 'better'. Also think how much would you spend on a handknitted itemif you bought it ready made, or on a scarf or hat etc? Often it is much cheaperto make it yourself. I WOULD normally pay £10 for a scarf from H&M or somewhere - not half as nice and everyone has them, so paying roughly the same for a couple skeins of yarn and knitting one which is unique and attracts attention and comments is - in my view- far better value, not to mention the reward you get when you finish something is way better than getting home totally exhausted from trailing around crowded stores trying to find something you like. Which i never can.
Thanks for posting this pattern.
